Day 3

April 19th, 2009

Well, today in the writing world…NOTHING has happened…not yet anyway. I still have like…seven hours of being awake...So we shall see what is in my mind tonight. We shall see. Anyway, what I HOPE to do, is to add some more to the short story. Probably not too much, but some, at least another page, that is what I am aiming for. I digress. I am looking at websites that will put up various papers so that I can show my supporters what I have so far and let them comment and or critique. But that is something that is pretty far down the list.

There isn’t too much to add today which makes me sad…I like updates and giving updates. I believe tomorrow will be a better entry, due to tonight’s later posting and maybe tomorrow’s. At least there will be more brainstorming for tomorrow. Maybe some inspiration during work…Now, I shall leave thee for now and start writing.

Day 2

April 18, 2009 2255

So, I have come up with a NEW idea. To get back in the groove of writing a novel type thing, I am going to write a short story. This is a sort of prologue to the novel that I want to write. The projected length is twelve pages. It will probably be longer, but twelve is the projected length. The basic idea is to show the main character Tiras, as a child. Along with Tiras, Randy and Marc make an appearance. They are Tiras’ best friends. They go on a little excursion to an old shipwreck located in a cave by the coastal town of Foggy Meadow. That is what I plan on using for a plot. So that is my big plan to help “get my feet wet.”

It sounds solid but I want to bounce the idea off my people to get an opinion on the idea. I don’t plan on doing anything big with it. Maybe if it gets a lot of interest, I MIGHT try to get it published, or just add it to the novel, as its prologue. I made a general plot outline to help keep things on the straight and narrow and not go off on a rabbit chase. I have a page and then some already written, nothing good, just me rambling on. That’s the best way to write a first draft for something. After which, I plan on adding and revising…NOT FUN STUFF, but necessary. Another idea I have to read some professional short stories. That might “inspire me”. We shall see what inspires me and what doesn’t. I will also try several writing mediums to see which one I like better, as well as to see which time I like best for writing. I am thinking night, since it is quiet and my most favorite time of the day. Another good idea is to take a weekly trip to Barnes & Noble to write there or maybe the Library since it is closer.

I am really liking the Inklings idea, but we’ll see what the other two people think. It has been used by famous authors like CS Lewis, JRR Tolkien, and such. Just an informal meeting where ideas were discussed, writing took place, etc. Sounds like fun and the support group idea is a good one. This is an exciting time due to the enormity of the project as well as the idea of MAYBE getting something published that would be amazing if that should happen. But at the same time the gut retching feeling of rejection is a big one, but even if I never get published I won’t stop writing. That wouldn’t help anything. Anyway, it is time to move on and do something else. Another entry tomorrow…Ciao.

Day 1

April 18th, 2009 0228

I have no idea why I am writing this. But it is said that if I write enough I will get an idea on what to write about story-wise. I am thinking Fantasy…that is the one genre that I am drawn to. I have one idea or scenario rather, on what to write on the idea is as follows.

“A bloodied trader arrives at a tavern in the town of Tramonia. This trader tells locals that he was attacked (by what?). This breaks the treaty, (What treaty? With whom was it made? Why was it made?) Tiras (the main character) and his two friends Marc and Randy overhear what the trader says…”

I think that this idea has a lot of potential. The hard part about it is the pre-writing phase where I SHOULD write down character profiles and what not. I am currently working on a World Map. It isn’t too detailed yet. I don’t know what else to add to what I already have. I also am working on a town map. It is coming out ok…better than my world map. I also have Tiras’ character profile written. If I could just get a few pages of plot written or a few pages of the story started. I need that jump start. I am getting my “inspiration” from several sources, two of which is the Bible, and Robert Jordan’s The “Wheel of Time”. If I could just get the idea above started, I could really get things going, I think. My two supports are Mat Edmonds and Kim Bills. They are writers like me. Both are Fantasy people like me. Maybe we should start something like the Inklings. We’ll see.

Another disadvantage I have is my not being good at grammar. My mechanics are horrible. However my content is good, at least that is what I am told. I am also new to the whole thing. I have never written something like this. It is a big adventure to be sure. Maybe I can find a support group online. This is the biggest project I have ever undertaken, it is a dream of mine to do this, I have attempted several time to do this, twice I think. Actually thrice…So, I am hoping on this one. I am really trying. Maybe I should post this online to encourage others? But at the same time others might not see it as an encouragement; I know that some would LOVE another thing to bash me on. I might try to get other sources for my project. I don’t know where this will go, or how this will turn out…a poem that comforts me and helps me and gives me a sort of odd…peace is this.

The Road goes ever on and on.

Down from the door where it began.

Now far ahead the Road has gone,

And I must follow, if I can,

Pursuing it with eager feet,

Until it joins some larger way

Where many paths and errands meet.

And whither then? I cannot say.” Until next time. Brad
